Slater says Aussie fans won't retaliate

Australia's fullback Billy Slater says Australian rugby league fans are too respectful to retaliate over last weekend's ugly New Zealand crowd scenes in what could be skipper Darren Lockyer's last home match for his country.

The stage was set for payback from Australian fans in Saturday night's Four Nations final in Brisbane after unruly crowd behaviour marred last weekend's 34-20 win over New Zealand at Eden Park.

Apologetic Kiwi players said yesterday their poor form early in the game was partly responsible for the wild antics of some fans in Auckland.

Slater doesn't think Australian fans could respond in a similar fashion because Queenslanders are pretty respectful and will want to give Lockyer a good sendoff.

After sitting out the Eden Park game Slater and Lockyer will slot back into the Australian team.
