China has suspended goalkeeper Wang Dalei indefinitely from the Asian Games football competition after he unleashed a tirade of abuse aimed at local fans and journalists on his microblog.
Wang criticised Chinese fans on a popular local website and complained they had verbally abused him during the team's 3-nil loss to Japan in a group match for the under-23 competition.
He also laid into Chinese media, calling them "haters of Chinese soccer" for their criticism following the dismal loss to their arch-rivals.
Cai Jiadong, secretary general of the Chinese delegation, said Wang's actions were "vile-natured" and had brought disgrace on himself and his team in a statement posted on the team's website.
Wang has also been ordered to issue a public apology, the statement added.
Chinese soccer has lurched from crisis to crisis in recent years and disaffected fans have turned away from the game amid corruption scandals, match-fixing and violence on and off the pitch.
