Barmy Army warns against riling Australian fast bowler

6:49 pm on 17 November 2010

The Barmy Army is warning it's troops not to taunt Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson for fear of firing him during the upcoming Ashes cricket series.

The English supporters' group delighted in Mitchell's struggles during last year's series but Barmy Army co-founder Paul Burnham says they'll be much more respectful when the Ashes begin on Johnson's former home ground at the Gabba in Brisbane next week.

Burnham says they will be going completely quiet when Johnson bowls.

With the British pound having lost value it's meant a reduced number of English cricket fans making the trip with Barnham expecting their numbers to be in the hundreds not thousands.

He says some grievances from the Ashes tour four years ago have been resolved with the Barmy Army having its own designated area during the five Tests and their trumpeter Billy Cooper has been handed the green light to make some noise.
