Lexus is the latest car manufacturer to be reportedly interested in joining the V8 Supercar championship.

With V8 Supercars hoping to bring in more manufacturers as part of its "Car of the Future" program, Toyota's luxury marque has become the latest to join those reportedly considering breaking the Holden/Ford duopoly.

Lexus Australia boss Tony Cramb says there's been an initial meeting between the brand and V8 Supercars but discussions were only preliminary

The obvious choice of model for Lexus to enter would be its V8-powered, rear-wheel drive IS-F sports sedan, which has the same footprint as a Holden Commodore or Ford Falcon.

BMW and Mercedes are also reported to have shown an interest.
