Vettori confident Blackcaps progressing well despite loss to India

The New Zealand cricket captain Daniel Vettori concedes the Blackcaps batsmen's latest capitulation in the massive loss to India in the third and deciding test was atrocious, but says the series proved the Blackcaps batsmen are on the rise.

After making just 193 runs in their first innings the Blackcaps folded in Nagpur for 175 with their second go with the bat, losing the test by an innings and 198 runs and the series one-nil.

After impressive draws in the first two tests Vettori concedes his side were abysmal in Nagpur, but says the future looks bright for several of the Blackcaps batsmen.

Meanwhile the injured batsman Jesse Ryder is returning home and will miss the Blackcaps five-match one-day series against India which starts on Sunday and will be replaced by Wellington's James Franklin.
