India take Blackcaps to school as Ryder heads home

8:09 am on 24 November 2010

The New Zealand cricket captain Daniel Vettori concedes the Blackcaps were given a cricketing lesson by India after losing the third and deciding test in Nagpur by an innings and 198 runs.

The Blackcaps batsmen were in a confident mood after some impressive performances in the first two tests but again capitulated in the third surrendering meekly to the Indian spinners, losing the test and the series one-nil.

Winning a game was always going to be a tough task for the 7th ranked Blackcaps against the world's top ranked test nation and Vettori admits they were taken to school by an Indian side stacked with talent.

Meanwhile the injured Blackcaps batsman Jesse Ryder is coming home early from the Indian tour and will miss all five one-day matches against the hosts which start on Sunday.

Ryder will be replaced by Wellington's James Franklin.
