New Zealand's Marina Erakovic is confident she'll have recovered from the hand injury that's cut short her season in time to play in the ASB Classic in Auckland if she gets a wild card.

Erakovic says a compressed nerve which meant she couldn't hold a racquet is much better and she's looking forward to the New Year classic which will feature two former world number ones Maria Sharapova and Dinara Safina, and a former number two Svetlana Kuznetsova.

The tournament director Richard Palmer says Sharapova's signing has sparked unprecedented early demand for tickets.
