Plunket Shield teams to recognise mine victims

11:17 am on 25 November 2010

Today all Plunket Shield domestic cricket teams will wear black arm bands and hold a minute's silence to recognise those affected by the Pike River Coal Mine disaster.

Today's play will start at 10.30 and the Auckland Aces, Northern Knights, Central Stags, Wellington Firebirds, Canterbury Wizards and Otago Volts will have a minute's silence at the start of play.

Black arm bands will also be worn today by the players and support staff.

The CEO of Otago Cricket Ross Dykes says the disaster has affected not only the West Coast, but all of New Zealand acknowledging the terrible tragedy from which 29 men will never come home.
