Left-arm seamer Ashish Nehra will replace Praveen Kumar in India's squad for the first one-day cricket international against New Zealand in Guwahati on Sunday.

Kumar will miss the first of the five-match series because of a fever.

India named a second-string squad for the first two matches with opener Gautam Gambhir captaining the side after regular skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and four other frontline players were rested.

Nehra, who has been one of India's first-choice seamers in the shorter versions of the game, played the ODI series against Australia, but was not part of the squad for the first two ODIs against New Zealand, despite a number of players being rested.
