The Wallabies captain Rocky Elsom says it's no surprise young stars Kurtley Beale and David Pocock have been nominated for world rugby's most prestigious individual award.

Fullback Beale, 21, and flanker Pocock, 22, have found themselves among the game's international elite after being shortlisted for the International Rugby Board's player of the year prize.

Pocock already won Australia's top award, the John Eales Medal, this year while Beale's meteoric rise has come after he made his Test debut just 12 months ago.
