Dodd and midfielder Paul Reid scored on home turf at Hindmarsh Stadium to dish out Gold's Coast's first defeat in 12 matches.
Adelaide's victory afforded them breathing space in second spot on the ladder, now seven points ahead of third-placed Gold Coast.
