The New Zealand cricketers have lost the opening game of their 5-match one day series in India by 40 runs.

The Black Caps run chase also involved a collapse - from 113 for 2, they lost their next six wickets for 56 runs, and were all out for 236 in the 46th over.

Ross Taylor was top scorer with 66 and Nathan McCullum and Kyle Mills hit out down the order for 35 and 32 respectively.

New Zealand's best bowlers were Andy McKay with 4 for 62 and Kyle Mills, three for 42.

The second match is in Jaipur on Wednesday.
