Swimming New Zealand's Performance General Manager, Jan Cameron says

Moss Burmester has made an outstanding contribution to the sport in and out of the pool.

The 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medalist is quitting the pool at 29 as New Zealand's best performed international swimmer since Danyon Loader.

He followed his 200 metres butterfly gold win in Melbourne with the world title in the same discipline at the FINA World Short Course Championships in 2008.
