The Bay of Plenty golfer Josh Geary is doing best of the five New Zealanders trying to qualify for places on next year's PGA tour.
After nine holes on the opening day of the 6-round final qualifying tournament in Florida, Geary's 3-under par after 9 holes, one stroke behind the leaders in a tie for 4th, Tim Wilkinson is even par through 12 holes, and Michael Hendry even par after 6.
Steven Alker is two over after 6 holes, and Danny Lee is three over par after 11.
