Tough first day coming up at Australian Open

8:16 am on 2 December 2010

It'll be a survival test in today's opening round of the Australian Open golf championship in Sydney.

After two days of persistent rain in Sydney, isolated showers and strong winds are forecast for today making life even more difficult for a field mostly playing the remodelled Lakes course for the first time after yesterday's pro-am was washed out.

The six New Zealanders in the field are Michael Campbell, Mahal Pearce, Michael Long, Gareth Paddison, Hamish Robertson and Brendan Stuart.
