New Zealand's first female Olympian will be honoured at a ceremony in Wellington tomorrow.
The family of swimmer Violet Walrond, who represented New Zealand at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp, will be presented with a uniquely numbered Olympic pin and certificate.
Walrond was just fifteen when she travelled by ship to the Games accompanied by her father who was also her coach.
The jouney by boat meant she was unable to train and while she lost fitness she still finished fifth in the 100m freestyle final.
Walrond, who died in 1996 at the age of 91, was New Zealand's ninth Olympian and her pin will be received by great-nephew Carl Walrond.
