Geoff Ogilvy achieved a 26-year-old long dream of capturing the Australian Open title when the 33-year-old from Melbourne cruised to an emphatic victory at the Lakes course in Sydney on Sunday.

Ever since he witnessed Tom Watson's 1984 success at Royal Melbourne, Ogilvy has longed for the day he was also handed the gleaming Stonehaven Trophy.

The 2006 US Open champion beat fellow Australians Matt Jones and Alistair Presnell by four strokes with a 19 under par total.

Three New Zealanders finished in the top 20 - Gareth Paddison tied for ninth, Michael Campbell's share of 12th was his best finish for more than two years, and Perth-based Michael Long tied for 17th.
