Ponting drops dramatically down world rankings

6:31 am on 8 December 2010

Ricky Ponting has dropped out of the top 20 in Test cricket's batting rankings for the first time since 2001 after Australia's crushing defeat by England in the second Ashes Test.

The Australian captain scored just nine runs in two innings in Adelaide, including a first innings golden duck, and the 35-year-old Tasmanian has dropped 12 places to 25th in the latest rankings.

There are no Australians among the top 10, while left-arm seamer Mitchell Johnson, dropped after the Brisbane Test, is the only Australian in the world's top 10 bowlers.
