United go top

12:26 pm on 14 December 2010

Manchester United's knocked Arsenal off the top of English football's Premier League with a 1-0 win over their title rivals at Old Trafford.

United scored just before half-time when South Korean midfielder Park Ji-Sung headed home a cross.

United squandered the chance to go 2-0 up when Wayne Rooney fired a penalty high over the bar with just over a quarter of an hour to go. It was probably some kind of football justice as referee Howard Webb pointed to the spot after the ball accidentally struck French defender Gael Clichy on the arm just after he'd fallen to the ground.

The hosts, unbeaten in the league this season and with the best home record, were playing the team with the best away form but Arsenal's performance lacked spark and they now sit second on 32 points, two behind United.

It's the Manchester side's 16th win from 21 Monday fixtures and the Red Devils have yet to lose once.
