Auckland pip Wellington in Twenty20 match

The arrival of Brett Lee and the return of Jessie Ryder wasn't enough as the Wellington cricket team was beaten by 2 runs by Auckland in their rain affected Twenty20 match at the Basin Reserve.

The match started late and was shortened to 12 overs aside and Auckland scored 125 for 5, with Lee taking one wicket in his first match for the Firebirds.

Wellington struggled in the gloom at 8:30 and couldn't score the 7 runs required off the last over to finish on 123 for 5 .

Auckland top the standings with 4 wins from 5 matches, while Wellington are 5th.

This evening Otago play Canterbury in Christchurch with both Brendan and Nathan McCullum turning out for the winless Volts.
