Overhaul of Aussie league could produce untold riches

There's talk of unprecedented amounts of money pouring into Australian rugby league in the near future, with reports of a one billion dollar deal in the offing, following a major overhaul of the sport's administration.

The Australian Rugby League and News Ltd, who've been running different areas of the game for the last 15 years, will cease to exist after they elect a board of eight commissioners who won't have had any direct involvement with either News Ltd or rugby league in the last three years.

The former Qantas boss Geoff Dixon and talkback radio host and former Wallabies coach Alan Jones have been mentioned as two possible candidates, and it's hoped the new controlling body will be in place by the start of the new season in March.
