Ferguson wants national coaching role back

5:42 pm on 18 December 2010

The sacked national canoe coach Ian Ferguson says he's reapplied for the job, despite being fired by the national body earlier this year, along with fellow Olympic champion Paul MacDonald.

Ferguson has a fractious relationship with former world champion Ben Fouhy, who has now returned to training with the national squad after Ferguson's departure.

Funding for the London Olympics is now in jeopardy with SPARC saying $900,000 earmarked for the sport will only be released if the sport gets its coaching structure right and ensures the right environment for all those in the national squad.

But despite the rancour Ferguson says he still wants the job.
