Swimming NZ chief says review is a great opportunity

SPARC's decision to guarantee Swimming New Zealand's high performance funding for only six months while an independent review is conducted doesn't seem to have upset the sport's chief executive.

Mike Byrne says the review's April 30 deadline is probably achievable, with the right people, and he'd expect discussions with the government's sports funding body about that.

Swimming New Zealand is budgeted to receive $1.65 million a year in 2011 and 2012, but guaranteed only $825,000 until June 30 so swimmers can keep training and competing while issues are resolved.
