Man City-Everton on, Toffees on top

9:50 am on 21 December 2010

Despite the continuing freeze throughout most of Britain, this morning's English Premier League football match between Manchester City and Everton has gone ahead - and the Toffees are on top.

Goals from Tim Cahill and Leighton Baines have put Everton 2-0 up at half-time and on track for just their second away win of the season.

But more importantly for City fans, their shot at top spot at Christmas for the first time since 1929 is now in serious jeopardy.

The temperature in Manchester plummeted to minus-15 degrees on Monday.

The Scottish Premier League match between Dundee United and Rangers has been postponed.

But a Heineken Cup rugby match was played at Murrayfield overnight.

Edinburgh beat the French club Castres 24-22 in a match played behind closed doors for safety reasons.

It was Edinburgh's first win of the season.
