Formula one cars set for radical changes

6:39 am on 22 December 2010

Formula one cars are set for more radical changes in time for 2013, aimed at greater efficiency and more excitement.

Cars will have much smaller wings and specially-shaped underfloors designed to generate downforce differently.

They will use 35% less fuel and be a little slower but more challenging to drive, although passing might be easier.

The architects of what would be the biggest design changes since 1983 are the respected engineers Patrick Head and Rory Byrne.
