Golfers not legally obliged to shot "fore!"

New York's top court has ruled that golfers can't always expect to get a warning shout of "fore!" every time balls come their way.

The state Court of Appeal was considering the case of two Indian doctors, regular playing partners, having a round on a Long Island course, when one shanked his shot across the fairway, hitting his mate in the head, blinding him in one eye.

The injured player lost his personal injury lawsuit as the seven judges ruled that errant shots are a common hazard on the golf course, the player's failure to shout "fore" did not amount to intentional or reckless conduct, and the victim was not in the foreseeable zone of danger.
