The New Zealand cricket team has won the first match of the three-game Twenty20 series against Pakistan at Eden Park, reaching the tourists' target of 144 with five wickets and almost three overs to spare.
Pakistan looked rusty batting first and with Tim Southee starring with the ball for the Black Caps with five wickets in nine deliveries including only the third ever Twenty20 hat-trick, the tourists' total was never going to be enough.
Opener Martin Guptill starred with the bat for New Zealand smashing 54 runs off just 45 balls to get the home side off to a flying start, before Ross Taylor and Peter McGlashan wrapped up the match with 17 balls to spare.
The tourists have added injury-blighted paceman Sohail Tanvir to their Test squad, just two weeks after he was ruled out of the trip with a knee problem.
Left-armer Tanvir last played a Test over three years ago.
