Ponting's reign as skipper ending? Frustrated outbursts earn fine

9:14 am on 28 December 2010

A number of cricket commentators including Ian Chappell and Mike Gatting believe Ricky Ponting's damaged his chances of remaining Australian Test captain.

Ponting was fined 40 percent of his match fee for "unacceptable" behaviour on day two of the fourth Ashes Test in Melbourne.

The 151-Test veteran was ruled to have argued excessively with the umpires over decisons that went to the video referee.

Former England skipper Gatting had his own furious altercations with umpires in his career - but he's sad to see Ponting continue to carp in today's video age, and thinks the Australian selectors now face a very big question to answer.

England remain firmly in control at 444 for five, a lead of 346 runs.
