Mariners get first win over Adelaide

1:10 pm on 28 December 2010

The Central Coast Mariners have closed the gap on second-placed Adelaide United in the A-League football competition, posting their first win over the Reds, 2-0 at Bluetongue Stadium in Gosford.

Central Coast are now just one point behind Adelaide on the ladder while the Brisbane Roar remain clear leaders after a 2-2 draw with neighbours Gold Coast United put them nine points ahead of the South Australians and 10 clear of the Mariners.

New Zealand's Kosta Barbarouses scored the first equaliser for the Roar on the half hour mark as the home side came back twice at Suncorp Stadium.

The Wellington Phoenix play at second-bottom North Queensland Fury tonight - the Phoenix are eighth but just a point out of playoff contention, however a rare away win's needed to keep them in touch with a post-season spot.
