Manchester United remain two points clear at the top of English football's Premier League after seeing off visitors Sunderland 2-0, while Manchester City moved up the table after a 3-1 victory at Newcastle United.

City are third after the English champions Chelsea were humbled 3-1 by London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, the home side climbing back to second after their first win in six local derbies over Chelsea.

10-man Tottenham Hotspur are fifth after posting a league double over Aston Villa with the 2-1 away win at Villa Park in the late game.

West Ham United have climbed off the bottom after their first away win in 18 months, beating Fulham 3-1 at Craven Cottage and dragging their London neighbours down into the relegation zone with them.

Fulham are without a league win since October.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are bottom after losing 2-1 to visitors and fellow strugglers Wigan Athletic, who climb up to 16th.

Elsewhere Blackburn Rovers lost 2-0 at home to Stoke City, Bolton Wanderers beat visitors West Bromwich Albion by the same score.

Everton's match at home to Birmingham City and Blackpool's game against Liverpool were postponed as Premier League fixtures once again fell victim to freezing conditions in Britain.
