7:33 pm on 1 January 2011

New Zealand sports fans will get the chance to vote for a new award to be announced with other winners at the Halberg Awards on February 10.

The Favourite Sporting Moment award is sponsored by SPARC and is a new initiative the Halberg Trust has introduced to engage the public more closely in the awards.

The moments in chronological order start with Brendon McCullum's 116 not out off 56 balls in a Twenty20 cricket match against Australia in Christchurch.

Then there's skiier Adam Hall's recovery to win slalom Gold at the Vancouver Paralympics, Winston Reid's goal against Slovakia at the football World Cup and another last minute score in South Africa, Israel Dagg's winning try for the All Blacks in Soweto.

The others are runner Nikki Hamblin's 800 metres silver and, also at the Delhi Commonwealth Games, the Silver Ferns' netball victory over Australia, Hamish Bond and Eric Murray winning pairs gold at the World Rowing Championships on Lake Karapiro, and Nathan Fien's last minute try for the Kiwis in the Four Nations rugby league final win over Australia in Brisbane.
