Wenger warns against too many manager sackings

Arsenal football manager Arsene Wenger has spoken out against quickfire managerial dismissals, warning the trend invariably led to "financial disaster" for clubs involved.

Wenger, speaking as his English premier league side prepared to face Ipswich in next week's League Cup semi-final, soon after the Championship side fired Roy Keane, says managers must be given time.

A total of eight managers have been fired in the past week while a further four Premier League bosses are reported to be on the verge of dismissal, including Roy Hodgson at Liverpool and Avram Grant at West Ham.

Wenger says "to have success in football you need stability, and without that the club is going in a different direction every six months. It finishes always with financial disaster without proving anywhere that changing managers provides success more than one time in 10. That means nine times it gets worse."

Wenger said that while managers were ultimately responsible for results, clubs needed to understand that it took time for appointees to affect change.
