Montgomerie backs Olazabal to succeed him

Scotland's Colin Montgomerie has again put his weight behind Jose Maria Olazabal succeeding him as Europe's Ryder Cup golf captain if the Spaniard wants the job.

Olazabal is expected to be offered the post on January 18 ahead of the European Tour event in Abu Dhabi with the only doubt being whether the two-time Masters champion, who has been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis for many years, feels up to the task.

The 2012 Ryder Cup will be held at Medinah Country Club in Illinois.

Montgomerie says "It would be a unanimous voice from the Ryder Cup committee (for Olazabal to get the job)," said Montgomerie, who is captain of the Europe team at this week's Royal Trophy in Hua Hin, Thailand.

Montgomerie adds "What Olazabal brought to the Ryder Cup over the years with Seve Ballesteros was remarkable - they have the best record together in history."
