Another average day for New Zealand cricketers

The New Zealand cricketers have ended the opening day of the second Test against Pakistan at the Basin Reserve on 246 for six.

Captain Daniel Vettori won the toss but his batsmen were unable to back him up against an average Pakistani attack with Ross Taylor providing the only noteable innings of 78.

Vettori and keeper Reece Young have put on 66 runs for the seventh wicket with Vettori on 38 and Young 28.

James Franklin made 33, Martin Guptil 29 and Kane Williamson 21.

Pakistani wicketkeeper Adnan Akmal took five catches, with bowlers Umar Gul and Tanvir Ahmed taking two wickets each.

Pakistan won the first match of the two-Test series by 10 wickets.
