Top seed starts with win in Melbourne

The top seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark and the star-turn in Auckland Maria Sharapova have won their first round matches at the Australian Open

Other into the second round include the sixth seed Francesca Schiavone and the beaten Auckland semi-finalist Julia Goerges.

Meanwhile the 12th seed Justine Henin is predicting none of the fireworks that propelled her to the 2010 final .

The former world number one returned in Melbourne last year after nearly two years out of the game and is now mounting a second comeback.

She says she's just happy the season-ending elbow ligament injury she suffered at Wimbledon has settled down enough to let her compete again although it means long warmups to ease the pain.
