The trend of highly ranked tennis players being handed victory through injury to their opponents has continued at the Australian Open.

The 2008 champion Novak Djokovic is the latest to be gifted a pass to the next round.

The third seed easily won the first set of his third round match against a Serbian Davis Cup team-mate when Viktor Troiki failed to come out for the second set after suffering a stomach injury.

Earlier Andy Murray had his first round match cut short when his opponent Karol Beck of Slovakia had to pull out in the third set.

And top seed Rafael Nadal was leading 6-0 5-0 when his Brazilian opponent Marcos Daniel also suffered a match-ending injury in their first round match.
