Socceroos impressed by Qatar

World Cup host or not, Socceroos captain Lucas Neill is convinced Qatar will put on an "amazing" tournament in 2022 that will be embraced by people from around the globe.

Controversy continues to simmer around FIFA's decision to award the tiny gulf nation hosting rights for the event ahead of several other ready-made candidates.

Australia was humiliated in its bid to host the tournament, receiving just one vote from the executive committee and leaving a sour taste in the mouths of many.

But if Neill or any of his Socceroos teammates are bitter they certainly aren't showing it, giving Qatar a thumbs up after two weeks spent in Doha for the Asian Cup.

Neill says they've got the infrastructure and financial backing and believes fans will love the football there.
