Meyer double gives Roar 2-0 win

The Wellington Phoenix footballers have four more games left to push for an A-League playoff place after losing 2-0 to the table-topping Brisbane Roar last night on the Gold Coast.

Two goals in the last six minutes by Brisbane substitute James Meyer at Skilled Park put paid to a precious away point for the Phoenix, who remain seventh - a point behind Melbourne Heart in the last playoff position, though the Phoenix do have a game in hand on the Heart.

The win saw Brisbane equal the Australian record of 22 matches unbeaten but it was a cruel blow to a Phoenix side that had looked comfortable in holding the Roar scoreless for 84 minutes.

The Phoenix face Newcastle at home on Sunday, then Adelaide and Sydney away before finishing the regular season in Wellington hosting North Queensland.

Brisbane welcome the Heart on Saturday.

In Wednesday night's other match, the Melbourne Victory enhanced their playoff prospects with a 3-0 home win over the North Queensland Fury.
