Australia's greatest Olympian, swimmer Ian Thorpe, will end months of speculation about his future at a 2 o'clock media conference in Sydney this afternoon, when he's expected to announce a comeback, aimed at next year's London Olympics.
The rumour mill has been in overdrive since Thorpe was spotted in recent months training in Sydney, and Australian swimming's head coach Leigh Nugent has confirmed he'd been in regular contact with the 28 year old champion who retired six years ago.
There's been widespread support for a Thorpe comeback, and Australia's dual Olympic champion Kieran Perkins says he can't see why the winner of nine Olympic medals couldn't compete at the highest level again.
