Breakers still hot

5:54 am on 4 February 2011

Star guard Kirk Penney was in vintage form as the New Zealand Breakers strengthened their position at the top of the Australian National Basketball League with an 80-76 home win over the Wollongong Hawks.

Penney played a lone hand in the scoring department with 22 points, Gary Wilkinson had 13, while Mika Vukona had a standout double-double for the hosts with 11 points and 16 rebounds.

Although the game was close throughout, the Hawks never actually led.

The Breakers are now 15 and 3 at the top of the table, 3 wins ahead of Perth.

Their next match is at home against Melbourne next Friday.
