Favourites England have opened the Six Nations rugby championship with a 26-19 victory over Wales in Cardiff.

Two tries from winger Chris Ashton got England off to a flying start, but they had to hang on in the final quarter.

England led 23-9 early in the second half, but the Welsh, lifted by a try on the hour from Morgan Stoddart, battled back to 23-19 but England had the last say with a penalty from replacement Jonny Wilkinson.
