The next contest for sailing's America's Cup moves a step closer today with the organisers taking delivery of a new generation catamaran in Auckland.

The high-tech catamaran is the first of a fleet being built in New Zealand to be used by teams in a build-up series to the Cup in 2013.

The San Francisco cup holder Oracle is building the boats at its Warkworth factory and each cup entrant will buy one for initial racing, prior to each designing their own much larger catamaran for the regata itself.

Oracle will this morning hand the first boat to its sister organisation which will run the event side of the Cup.
