Ponting says leaving Hussey out the right move

The Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting believes the decision to leave injured batsman Mike Hussey out of the World Cup will ultimately be proven correct.

At the last World Cup Cricket Australia took a risk by carrying the injured Andrew Symonds through the early portions of a long tournament and Hussey was unsure why his injured hamstring wasn't given the same treatment.

But Ponting says it was simply a case of the selectors wanting to have as many fit players ready for Australia's first warm-up game against India on Sunday.

Ponting says losing Hussey's valuable middle-order batting and experience was a huge blow to Australia's chances of winning an unprecedented fourth consecutive World Cup.

Ponting admitted too that he's unlikely to 100 per cent fit at any point in the tournament as he continues to recover from a broken finger.
