The national amateur golf champion Cecilia Cho is the best of the New Zealander after the opening round of the ANZ Ladies Masters on the Gold Coast.

16-year-old Cho followed up her excellent performance in the Australian Open to fire a three-under 69, finishing in a share of 28th place in a day of hot scoring at Royal Pines Resort.

She shares that with New Zealand professional Sarah Nicholson although the Wellington player had the royal Pines course at her mercy with six birdies in her opening eight holes along with one bogey and one par. She dropped three shots coming home with one birdie.

Six players share the lead on six-under 66 including the great Australian Karrie Webb.
