Welsh star Bale to miss Spurs clash with AC Milan

Welsh winger Gareth Bale has failed in his battle to be fit for Tottenham's Champions League football clash with AC Milan on Wednesday due to an ongoing back injury.

Bale, who terrorised Inter Milan's defence on his last trip to the San Siro in the group stages, did not travel with the squad when they left for Milan for the last 16 first leg tie yesterday.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp, confirmed Bales unavailability saying he's like to be able to scare Milan and say Gareth's going to be available, but he's not.

Tottenham limbered up for their date with Milan with a 2-1 win over Sunderland in the Premier League on Sunday, while AC Milan thumped Roma 4-nil in the Serie A.

On a more positive note for Redknapp, Rafael van der Vaart, who missed Sunday's game at the Stadium of Light with a calf problem, is expected to line up.

Striker Peter Crouch (back) and midfielder Luka Modric (appendicitis) remain doubtful.
