Lam's selections issues made easier by McAlister injury

The Blues rugby coach Pat Lam is hopeful that first-five Luke McAlister will make their trip to South Africa after being ruled out of their Super Rugby opener against the Crusaders on Saturday.

McAlister was concussed in a pre-season match and is not available for the Eden Park clash, meaning Stephen Brett will start at 10.

Lam says McAlister would have started if he was fit and the change isn't too much of an issue....

Lam says a back-up number 10 won't be a problem if McAlister doesn't recover in time for the second round, but he says there's a good chance the former All Black will be available for the Sharks match in Durban.

Lam says McAlister's being tested every day and they'll have a better idea by Thursday or Friday.
