U.S TV deal worth several billion dollars

A U.S. broadcasting rights deal for the next two or four Olympic Games, which could become the biggest sports TV deal, should be sealed by July.

The International Olympic Committee has delayed awarding the US rights for over a year because of the slump in the American advertising market and the general economic downturn.

But the IOC's chief negotiator for the contract Richard Carrion hopes to have the deal in place in time for the IOC session in Durban in July.

What is still undecided is whether the new agreement will be the standard two-Games package - one winter and one summer Games - or if it will be a four-Games deal stretching to 2020.
