Lance Armstrong, who recovered from cancer to win the Tour de France for an unprecedented seven consecutive years, has formally announced his retirement from cycling, a month after competing in his last race, The Tour Down Under in Australia.
The 39-year-old American, who made a comeback to the sport two years ago, says he's quitting to spend more time with his family and his charities.
Although he never failed a dope test and always denied doping, Armstrong was dogged by accusations of wrongdoing during his career.
Last year, his former team mate Floyd Landis, while confessing to cheating himself, accused Armstrong of using performance enhancing drugs.
