Italian golfer leads NZ women's open

6:50 pm on 17 February 2011

Italy's Giulia Sergas holds the clubhouse late on the first day of the New Zealand Women's Open at the Pegasus Golf Course near Christchurch.

Her eight under 64, which included seven birdies and an eagle, has her three clear of Korea's Bo-Bea Kim.

And it looks as if the best of the New Zealanders tomorrow may be the 13-year-old North Shore amateur Lydia Ko who's moved up to three under and into a five way share of third with two holes to play.

Caroline Bon's the next best New Zealand player with a two under 70.

The defending champion Laura Davies finished on even par in a share of 15th.
