English horse deaths caused by electrocution

7:41 am on 18 February 2011

The deaths of two horses at the Newbury race meeting in England at the weekend were caused by sudden cardiac arrest from accidental electrocution.

Fenix Two and Marching Song died in front of astonished racegoers before the first race.

Two other horses were also affected and the meeting was abandoned.

The British Horseracing Authority says the incident was caused by a leakage of electricity from a cable under the parade ring which had now been removed.
